Make 2022 the year to improve your garden

With the new year around the corner, its time to thinking about ways to refresh your home, inside and out. When it comes to upgrading your homes look, most of the time a homes interior gets all the glory, however, why not make 2022 the year to refresh and renovate your garden. Gardens don’t only serve as an outdoor living area, a play area for kids or simply just a place to sit back and relax, they are part of the final look of your home.

As with any design project there are many things that need to be considered, but don’t worry we have some handy tips that will help you along the way. Its a great idea to look at your garden and see what areas get sunlight exposure, and what areas are shaded and at what times of days these change. This can be your starting point for designing the layout of your new garden.

It is vital to plant certain plants in certain areas of sunlight exposure, and other plants may thrive in shaded areas. With that said, there are the basics you need to start with… the ground work. You may choose to have a lawned area along with a paved section or decking area, the perfect place for seating. The decking boards must be strong and withstand most weather conditions, all whilst being able to be cleaned easily. Long lasting decking will have been pressure treated to prevent it from rotting.

Low maintenance plants must be chosen carefully when planting a garden, as you will not want to spend hours tending to them each day if they require a lot of care or upkeep. It is also best to plant flowers in beds away from paths so that people walking past can avoid treading on them and damaging their roots.

You may also wish to add some sort of outdoor shelter area alongside your decking, which means you can enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather. A small pergola or gazebo would be perfect for this purpose, providing a shaded area or shelter from the rain to sit under.

Choose your outdoor furnishings wisely, as you do not want them to become damaged in the winter. Alternatively, you could purchase a cover to protect them during the harsh weather. Outdoor furnishings may include a table and chairs for dining, a sofa area for more relaxation and a cooking area for a BBQ or pizza oven.

When it comes to adding flowers or plants to your garden, there are many ways you can do this. Hanging baskets can present hanging plants beautifully, where as a rockery flower bed can be great for a mixture of plants and flowers. Not forgetting the use of flower pots, which can be placed and moved wherever you wish, including up on the wooden decking, or along the grass verge.

There really are many ways you can improve the look of your garden and create the perfect outdoor living space for your family and friends.
